SUMMARY:Tereza Stehlikova @ absolute now II
DESCRIPTION:‘Eternity does not exist anywhere but in changing time. Eternity is the absolute now.’ — D.T. Suzuki\, Time and Eternity (1956) \n\n\n\n\nRieko Akatsuka – George Barber – Kaz – Guy Sherwin – Tereza Stehlikova\n\n\n\n\nFor the 10th anniversary of absolute now—a group exhibition originally held in Tokyo—five artists return to explore the enduring paradox of time: the coexistence of the fixed and the fluid\, the eternal and the ever-changing.\n\n\n\n\nAmong the new works presented\, Czech artist Tereza Stehlikova contributes a video installation that expands on her long-term project 4 Generations of Women (2012–). Her piece immerses viewers in a layered reality where personal\, familial\, and more-than-human identities converge. Through the poetic use of moving image\, Stehlíková explores how selfhood is entangled with ancestry\, descendants\, and the natural world — revealing a timeless quality within the rhythms of change. Boundaries dissolve: between mother and daughter\, self and other\, human and non-human\, past and future — yet something essential endures in the very act of being present.\n\n\n\n\nAs with the other participating artists\, Stehlikova uses the language of the moving image — a medium built from stillness in motion — to question what ‘absolute now’ means in a socio-political context transformed over the past decade. The exhibition reflects on how we inhabit the present in a time when truth feels increasingly unstable and digital technologies offer continual escape from the here and now.\n\n\n\n\nThe exhibition is curated by Kaz and will include a curated programme of events.\n\n\n\n\nFor further information\, please contact danielle@daniellearnaud.com.\n\n\n\n\nThe gallery is open by appointment only.  \n\n\nMore info about the exhibition on\n \nDANIELLE ARNAUD website

SUMMARY:Roma Routes – Art\, Identity\, and Expression from Hungary
DESCRIPTION:Join us on 8 April to mark International Roma Day for Roma Routes\, an evening of photography\, film\, and contemporary art exploring the journeys that shape Roma identity. Bringing together documentary work from a collaborative project in Tiszavasvári\, Hungary\, and artistic reflections by London-based Roma artist Robert Czibi\, the exhibition traces connections between place\, memory\, and belonging. Through images\, stories\, and personal perspectives\, Roma Routes invites audiences to reflect on how identity is shaped between the places we come from and the places we continue to become.\n\nThis exhibition brings together two intertwined narratives: the story of a segregated Roma community in Tiszavasvári\, and that of an artist born in another Roma neighbourhood in the same region who has carried its memory across borders.\n\nThe first story is that of collaboration: stepping across internal borders between the countryside and the Hungarian capital\, Budapest\, to involve participants from the Roma neighbourhood of a small town in the North-East of Hungary in a collaborative writing project with local non-Roma residents through the publication of the periodical Duj Dzséne – Ketten – Two Together.\n\nThe second story is of the artist\, Robert Czibi who crossed internal borders of identity and the physical borders of countries on many occasions before finding his expressive voice in the multiplicity of London’s lingua-culture. The simultaneity of identity as rootedness in Roma origins and identity as motion and interaction with our surroundings is what unites the two narratives that unfold in the images exhibited together.\n\n\nThe Road Ahead\nDocumentary and Photography Projects from Hungary – Film and photography\n\nThis photo exhibition was created in collaboration between photojournalist Márton Kállai\, multiple-winner of the Hungarian Press Photo Competition\, and the Tiszavasvári Roma Girls’ Youth Club\, on the initiative of the KRE Linguistic Diversity and Social Participation research group at Károli Gáspár University in Budapest. Together\, Roma and non-Roma participants from Tiszavasvári and Budapest write and publish the journal Duj Dzséne – Ketten – Two Together\, creating a narrative of trust and belonging about Roma futures and the coexistence of Roma and non-Roma in Hungary. The documentary film Duj Dzséne – Ketten – Two Together: Stories of a collaborative journal in support of Roma social participation showcases stages from their journey together: how they forged a collaborative writing and research collective across the borders of identity that separate people living alongside each other.\n\n\n\n\nThere I Was Born\, Here I Become\nContemporary Art\n\nRobert Czibi’s artistic response unfolds as a parallel journey alongside the documentary and the photos. Although Robert’s works reflect his individual journey as a London-based Roma artist from Hungary\, his journey explores the potentialities that open up when collectives or individuals persistently criss-cross and interrogate physical and narrative borders of identity. Through his works\, he returns to the landscapes of his childhood not only to remember\, but to understand how identity is formed between the place of birth and the place of becoming. Through images\, he explores what it means to grow up in a Roma family\, to leave it behind\, and to continue carrying its imprint in his works. Together\, his artworks create a dialogue between here and there\, between collective memory and personal transformation.\n\n\n\n\nProgramme\n\n 18:30 – Film screening (25 minutes)\n 19:00 – Panel discussion – The Road Ahead – Documentary and Photography Projects from Hungary\n 19:30 – There I Was Born\, Here I Become – Private view\n 21:00 – End of Event\n\n\n\n\nWe warmly invite audiences to join us for an evening of photography\, film and contemporary art marking International Roma Day. Through documentary images\, collaborative storytelling and personal artistic reflection\, Roma Routes opens a space to engage with questions of identity\, belonging\, and the journeys that shape Roma lives across places and generations.\n\nThe exhibition offers an opportunity to encounter the voices and perspectives behind these projects and to reflect on how communities and individuals navigate the paths between heritage\, memory and new beginnings.\n\nRegistration is open via Eventbrite.\n\nThe event is supported by the National Research\, Development and Innovation Office – Hungary and organised by the Liszt Institute London

SUMMARY:Meet the artist - Guided Tour & Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Led by Géza Starmüller\, this workshop takes a participatory artistic format\, fostering direct dialogue between artists and audiences. Participants are encouraged to engage in shared creative processes and moderated discussions\, exploring themes of philosophy\, history\, and contemporary art. The programme moves beyond traditional presentation models\, emphasising collaboration\, critical thinking\, and collective reflection in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. \nThe guided tour offers an open platform where artistic practice and intellectual exchange meet in a live\, communal\, and warm setting. \n\n\nGéza Starmüller (b. 1966\, Cluj) is a contemporary visual artist and sculptor based in Transylvania. The fourth generation of artists in his family\, his practice is rooted in a lifelong engagement with art\, supported by both family heritage and formal training. He studied sculpture at the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca and further developed his practice through private mentorships and international art camps. \nWorking primarily with conceptual and spiritual foundations\, his artistic language unfolds through oil painting and bronze sculpture\, and more occasionally through stone and wood. His work explores the moment when spirit penetrates matter\, an approach he defines as cosmic surrealism. Influenced by philosophy\, diverse cultures\, personal life experience\, and place\, his creative process often begins with an intuitive vision that matures over the years into its final form. \nStarmüller has participated in numerous national and international group exhibitions and has contributed to major public art projects\, including the restoration of the Statue of Liberty in Arad\, as well as other monuments in Romania and abroad.

SUMMARY:Klára Hosnedlová: Echo
DESCRIPTION:11 Feb 2026 – 29 Mar 2026 \nWhite Cube Bermondsey\, London \nWhite Cube Bermondsey will open a solo exhibition of work by Klára Hosnedlová\, marking the artist’s debut with the gallery. Klára Hosnedlová’s corporeal\, immersive installations address utopian visions and imagine our future\, post-nature selves. Conceived as part-stage\, part-laboratory\, ‘Echo’ combines her signature photo-realist embroideries with architectural elements\, large-scale sculpture and textile works and living mycelium fungus. Incorporating performance elements and accompanied by a soundscape\, the artist choreographs a fictional narrative around themes of flux and transformation. \n\nKlára Hosnedlová (b. 1990\, Uherské Hradiště) is a Czech artist based in Berlin whose practice examines historical perception through utopian design and architecture. Responding to specific sites\, she researches experimental projects and past futurisms\, exploring how nostalgia shapes contemporary culture. Drawing on science fiction\, technology and ecological systems\, Hosnedlová creates immersive installations with a tactile\, “futuristic archaeological” atmosphere. Part of the first post-Communist Czech generation\, she is inspired by modernist and Brutalist architecture in Central and Eastern Europe and its intersections with politics\, history and mythology. Her work combines sculpture\, performance\, photography and embroidered panels and has been exhibited internationally\, including at Kunsthalle Basel\, Kestner Gesellschaft and the Lyon Biennale. \nOrgansied by White Cube Berdmonsey. \n\n\nFor more information about the exhibition please visit White Cube Bermondsey website

SUMMARY:Peter Peri in Conversation with Dávid Fehér - Book launch and display of recent paintings
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Liszt Institute London for an evening celebrating the launch of a new monograph on Peter Peri\, published by Einspach Czapolai Fine Art. \nPeri will be in conversation with Dávid Fehér\, Director of the Central European Research Institute for Art History of the Museum of Fine Arts. Their discussion will explore Peri’s artistic practice\, key themes in his work\, and the ideas shaping his most recent projects\, offering insight into both the newly published monograph and his wider artistic trajectory. \nThe event will also feature a display of Peri’s latest paintings in the gallery\, providing a unique opportunity to experience his practice first-hand alongside the critical perspectives presented in the publication. \nCopies of the book will be available on site. All are welcome to attend\, register via Eventbrite. \n\n\nPeter Peri (b. 1971\, London) \nPeter Peri’s primary media are drawing\, sculpture\, and painting: three distinct bodies of work that are developed independently by the artist to create a complex set of interrelations. All works are specifically invested in the tension between line and volume\, figuration and abstraction\, and in the questioning of tradition and influence in Modernism. \nA graduate of Chelsea College of Art\, he made his debut at Bloomberg New Contemporaries in 2003. He has exhibited widely internationally\, including Tate Britain\, the Hayward Gallery\, and Kunsthalle Basel. Peri’s work can be found in the collections of Tate\, the Victoria & Albert Museum\, and the Museum of Fine Arts\, Budapest. Peri’s work has a personal connection to Modernism. His grandfather was Peter László Péri (1899–1967)\, a Hungarian émigré to Britain who was involved in Constructivism before turning to architecture and later in his life to Realism. \n\n\nDávid Fehér \nDávid Fehér is an art historian\, director of the Central European Research Institute for Art History of the Museum of Fine Arts\, and assistant professor at the Institute of Art History at the Eötvös Loránd University. His research covers 20th-century and contemporary art\, including Pop Art\, Photorealism\, and related movements. He has curated numerous exhibitions and has published widely in academic journals\, exhibition catalogues\, and art publications. He is a member of the Hungarian Section of the International Association of Art Critics.

SUMMARY:Pixels and Poetics: Sudek\, Funke\, and the Influence of New Technologies on the Development of Photography
DESCRIPTION:Pixels and Poetics: Sudek\, Funke and the Influence of New Technologies on the Development of Photography connects the world of interwar analogue photography with the visual aesthetics of today’s digital age. It offers visitors a unique opportunity to trace how the image has transformed over two centuries—from tangible traces of light to synthetic visual worlds created by artificial intelligence. \nThe exhibition presents iconic works by Josef Sudek and Jaromír Funke\, whose photographs demonstrate how light\, composition\, and atmosphere can transform reality into poetic or constructive visual worlds. These classical approaches are complemented by historical photomontages\, double exposures\, and analogue manipulations\, showing how deeply the desire to reshape the image is established in the tradition of photography. The historical works in the exhibition are drawn from the PPF Art collection\, which plays a key role in preserving and presenting Czech photographic heritage. \nThe contemporary section of the exhibition develops this dialogue through artists working with AI and generative technologies. In her work Your Addiction Is the Message\, Barbora Trnková reveals the mechanisms of visual dependency in the digital environment and the role of technologies in shaping our perceptions. Lenka Hamošová\, in the project Troubling GAN and the series Strange Attractions\, explores both the aesthetics and limitations of neural networks\, showing how algorithms create and reproduce stereotypes or visual hallucinations. A collaborative work by Trnková and Javůrek\, Generation of Princesses\, uses generative models to critically reflect on pop-culture ideals of femininity and their digital reconstruction. The exhibition offers a visually compelling and accessible perspective on how our understanding of the image\, reality\, and the things we are willing to believe when we look\, is changing. \nOrganised by the Czech Centre with the kind support of the PPF Foundation. \nEXHIBITION OPENING\nTuesday 20 January 2026\, 6.30 – 8.30 pm\nFree entry\, REGISTER HERE: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/pixels-and-poetics-private-view-tickets-1977922480383?aff=oddtdtcreator\nEXHIBITION DATES: 20 January – 13 March 2026\nVENUES & OPENING TIMES \nVitrínka Gallery\, Czech Centre London\n30 Kensington Palace Gardens\, London\, W8 4QY\nOpening hours: Tue – Fri 10am – 5pm \nBouda Gallery\, Czech Centre London\n132 Palace Gardens Terrace\, Kensington\, London\, W8 4RT\nOpening hours: Tue – Fri 10am – 5pm \nPublic space outside of the Czech Embassy\, London\n26 Kensington Palace Gardens\, London\, W8 4RT\nAccessible 24/7

SUMMARY:Echo: Dorothy Cross in Conversation with Iwona Blazwick
DESCRIPTION:For the third conversation of Echo\, curator Iwona Blazwick speaks with Irish artist Dorothy Cross about her work and how her forms and images resonate with myth and metamorphosis. Being human in relation to the natural world is a motif running through the sculpture\, film & photography of Cross\, connecting her work with the animist beliefs of the ancient world. The talk will be followed by a Q&A session.  \nCross came to prominence in the 1990s with her use of the skins and udders of cows to create surreal draped figures reminiscent of Christian statuary. Throughout her career she has continued to cast animal\, plant and human forms – ranging from jellyfish and foxgloves to skulls and fingers – making sculptures and films that create metamorphic synergies between us and non-human species. Most recently Cross has turned to carving marble\, the material of Antiquity. Sourcing an astonishing range of geological colours and striations\, she carves exquisitely rendered feet as part of the stone yet emerging from it.  Rather than pairs of feet\, single or multiple feet are captured in the act of walking\, like the petrified ghosts of our ancestors. She has commented. ‘Good art should make you consider yourself in relation to time\, which means in relation to birth\, life and death’. Dorothy Cross’ oeuvre resonates with the winged or four legged gods and goddesses of Greco-Roman statuary and with ancient systems of belief where the non-human world was understood as sentient and magical.    \nImage: Dorothy Cross\, Poll Na bPéist\, 2008\, Archival pigment print

SUMMARY:Biophilia - An exhibition by photo artist Balázs Csizik and neuroscientist Dániel Barabási
DESCRIPTION:Liszt Institute London presents Biophilia\, a one-of-a-kind exhibit featuring the thought-provoking combination of the works of neuroscientist Dániel Barabási and photo artist Balázs Csizik. \nThe exhibition is organised around the concept of life and its different dimensions\, as the duo combines the tools of science and fine art to present the central theme through a variety of media\, from cellular organisation to networks of urban spaces and communities. \nJoin us for the opening on Wednesday\, 12 November\, 6.00 – 8.00 pm. \nThe exhibition will be on view for the public from 13 November 2025 – 16 January 2026\, Mondays-Fridays 11.00 am – 7.00 pm. \nPreviously presented in New York\, Brussels\, and Stuttgart\, we are excited to welcome the exhibition to London in November 2025. \n\n\nThe concept of life and its various definitions have largely determined the scientific and cultural discourses of the 20th and 21st centuries. Traditionally\, when we speak of life\, we think primarily of human existence\, and we interpret the life of other forms of existence in relation to this. The concept of life has carried this duality since antiquity. In ancient Greek thought\, two concepts with different meanings were used to denote life: zoé\, which refers to mere life\, natural existence\, organic forms of existence\, the self-organizing processes of nature\, the self-maintaining biological processes of the body\, while bios refers to life organized in form\, political and communal existence\, self-conscious action\, ethics\, and moral laws. The tension between nature and culture\, between non-human and human existence\, can be detected in the divergence between the two concepts. In the intersection of the modifications of meaning or even the vitality of these categories\, we find the notion of life in constant change and in constant need of investigation. \nThe joint exhibition of Dániel Barabási and Balázs Csizik synthesizes the different dimensions of the interpretation and observation of life. Barabási is a neuroscientist who studies the cellular organization and developmental processes of living systems\, the human body\, and the brain. As a visual artist\, Csizik works primarily in photography\, capturing and manipulating natural\, urban\, and social phenomena using a specific formal language based on the aesthetics of constructivism. In Biophilia\, Barabási’s works organize and transform cells into abstract artistic compositional elements\, while Csizik’s restrained formal compositions involve sprawling organisms. Reflecting on each other\, inspired by each other’s methods\, the two artists explore the different forms of life and the connections between them. They use the exhibition space as an aesthetic laboratory\, a place for exploring the intersections between science and visual art\, urbanism\, sociology\, environmental science\, biology\, and an experimental mix of different approaches. In their joint work\, different concepts and forms of life make sense in a complementary and mutually reinforcing way. \nZsófia Máté\, curator

SUMMARY:'Breathing' with 'Breaths - Air Bladders'
DESCRIPTION:Filomena Borecká’s captivating artwork Breaths – Air Bladders invites visitors to experience the shared act of breathing and reflect on our interconnection with the living world. \n\nSparked by the global awareness of breath during the COVID-19 pandemic\, and blending art\, science and sensorial experience\, the exhibition curated by Judith Rainhorn and Charles-Antoine Wanecq explores the cultural\, social\, and scientific histories of respiration from the 18th century to today. Drawing on the outcomes of two interdisciplinary workshops\, it brings together perspectives from historians\, scientists\, artists\, and healthcare professionals. Central to the exhibition is Borecká’s participatory sculpture Breaths – Air Bladders\,which transforms a fundamental act of life into a sensorial\, collective\, and thought-provoking experience.\n\nFilomena Borecká is an artist and researcher\, PhD (University Paris 1 Panthéon–Sorbonne\, 2023)\, and graduate of the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris (2004)\, with an exchange at MFA Hunter College in New York. She works primarily in France but has also created in Prague and New York\, with each place leaving its imprint on her practice\, which unfolds in three parallel and interrelated threads: performance\, (sound) sculpture\, and drawing. Her drawings\, reminiscent of seismographs\, engage in a dialogue with their environment. Recent exhibitions include Maison française d’Oxford\, National Gallery Prague\, CACLB Luxembourg\, Círculo de Bellas Artes Madrid\, and Queens College Art Center New York. Borecká collaborates with the Chair in Health in Human and Social Sciences and with the ACTE Institute at Sorbonne University Paris 1.\n\nBreaths – Air Bladders\nFor several years\, Filomena Borecká has created artworks that invite connection and reflection on what sustains life: the invisible air. Breaths – Air Bladders\, co-created with set designer Bruno Dubois\, comes alive in the presence of viewers as air-filled forms expand and contract. The work draws on a childhood memory from Christmas Eve: while preparing carp\, Borecká recalls seeing two irregular air bladders — organs that help the fish float and\, in a child’s imagination\, embody its “soul.” This memory anchors an artwork that explores breath as both literal and metaphorical\, a vital rhythm binding us to each other and to the living world we share.\n\n EXHIBITION OPENING\nFriday 31 October 2025\, 6 – 7.30 pm  \nFree entry\, REGISTER NOW\nJoint Private View with Silent Systems: Breathing Devices\n EXHIBITION DATES: 31 October 2025 – 16 January 2026\n VENUE\nBouda Gallery\, Czech Centre London\n132 Palace Gardens Terrace\, London W8 4RT\n OPENING HOURS:\nTue – Fri 10am – 5pm

SUMMARY:Sense of Calm guided tour - With artist Laura Medcalf
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a guided tour of Laura Medcalf’s solo exhibition SENSE OF CALM on the 17th October at 3.00 pm. As the solo show reaches its final days\, this event will provide one last chance to interact with Medcalf’s meditative works and to learn more about her practice firsthand.\n\nCoinciding with Frieze week\, this guided tour will serve as the finissage of our third exhibition\, SENSE OF CALM\, with special insight and engagement from the artist herself.\n\nAmid the movement and energy of Trafalgar Square\, SENSE OF CALM offers a moment to pause\, a space to step away from the city’s fast pace and into something slower\, elemental\, and immersive. In this solo exhibition\, British-Hungarian multidisciplinary artist Laura Medcalf transforms the Liszt Institute London’s gallery into a space of stillness and presence\, shaped by open waters\, soil\, and sunlight.\n\nThe exhibition explores how art can become more than an object of observation\, a space for stillness and inner calm. Built from organic elements\, the works establish a delicate balance between the rhythms of nature and human perception\, offering an opportunity for reflection\, renewal\, and a deeper connection with ourselves and the world around us.\n\nIn a world that rarely slows down\, SENSE OF CALM invites viewers to pause. To listen. To feel the flow. To follow the traces of light. To look beyond the surface\, towards the quiet\, invisible forces that shape us all.\n\nIn collaboration with Art Embassy Network.

SUMMARY:RUSH(ES) by Alexandra Bachzetsis
DESCRIPTION:RUSH(ES) is a compelling new solo performance by renowned Greek-Swiss visual artist and choreographer Alexandra Bachzetsis. Conceived as an introspective journey\, RUSH(ES) confronts behavioural taboos and interrogates the commodification of desire — constructed and deconstructed through the moving body.    \nRUSH(ES) is characterised by rapid transformations that push the body to its limits\, reflecting pleasure\, joy\, solitude and anxiety through the intense physicality of the performer. In the process of corporeal metamorphosis\, Bachzetsis navigates her body so that it ceases to be human and morphs into something else – an animal\, an object\, a tool.  \nIn this solo performance\, the audience is invited to perceive\, examine and experience these physical transformations as a reflection of the collective consciousness. RUSH(ES) thus aims to evoke intuitive\, immediate responses to music\, space\, text and the actions of the body\, taking both performer and audience into a heightened state of awareness and transformation.  \nBlending autofiction and auto–documentation\, the piece invites both performer and audience into a heightened state of awareness and transformation.  \nThe performance will take place on Thursday 16 and Friday 17 October 2025 at 19:00. This is the London premiere of RUSH(ES) and spaces are limited.

SUMMARY:BOOKMORPHS: Artists’ Books from Greece & the UK
DESCRIPTION:The interactive exhibition BOOKMORPHS: Artists’ Books from Greece & the UK brings together a diverse selection of artists’ books\, book works\, book-art objects\, limited and multiple editions\, ephemera\, and journals by 44 visual artists\, curators\, publishers\, and theorists from both Greece and the UK. It marks the first comprehensive presentation in London of contemporary artists’ books by Greek and British visual artists in dialogue.  \nBOOKMORPHS borrows its title from a term used by art writer Michael Hampton and aims to foster dialogue and exchange between Greek and British artists.  \nShowcasing a wide range of techniques and media – painting\, printmaking\, drawing\, writing\, poetry\, digital printing\, cutting\, bookbinding\, sculpture\, sound\, and photography – the exhibition highlights the rich materiality and experimental nature of the book as an artistic form.  \nWhat happens when a book’s legibility is disrupted? BOOKMORPHS invites audiences to engage with books through unconventional forms of ‘reading’: holding\, touching\, activating. Here\, books transform into vehicles of unique\, interactive experiences\, allowing visitors to explore the anatomy of the book and connect more intimately with its content.  \nIn re-examining the meaning and history of the codex\, these works address a range of social\, political\, cultural\, ecological\, and gender issues. Personal narratives and subversive themes are reimagined in the artists’ book format\, expanding the ways books can be created\, read\, and understood as cultural artefacts.  \nThe various objects presented in BOOKMORPHS continue to abide by typical bibliographic references\, even though an artist’s book presents a disruption to conventional literary structures. In an age of screen reading and doom-scrolling\, this exhibition seeks to preserve a tactile connection with the book – as text\, as layered object\, and as interactive form.   \nParticipating artists: Eleni Angelou\, Nikos Arvanitis\, Rania Bellou\, David Blackmore\, Sarah Bodman\, Ismini Bonatsou\, BOOKEND – Matt Hale & Nick Cash\, Maria Bourbou\, Thodoros Brouskomatis\, Jonathan Callan\, Natassa Chelioti – Naga\, Ioanna Delfino\, Joe Devlin\, Anna Dimitriou\, Stephen Emmerson\, SJ Fowler\, Michael Hampton\, Rowena Hughes\, Inscription Journal (Gill Partington\, Simon Morris\, Adam Smyth)\, Antonia Iroidou\, Eleni Kastrinogianni\, Peggy Kliafa\, Alexia Kokkinou\, Georgia Kotretsos\, Nikos Kryonidis\, Vasiliki Lefkaditi\, Eleni Maragaki\, Kyriaki Mavrogeorgi\, Despina Meimaroglou\, Christina Mitrentse\, Fiona Mouzakitis\, Kiki Perivolari\, Stamatis Schizakis\, Ifigeneia Sdoukou\, Christina Sgouromiti\, Danai Simou\, Dimitris Skourogiannis\, Annetta Spanoudaki\, Nectarios Stamatopoulos\, Despina Stavrou\, Aris Stoidis\, Evangelos Tasios\, Yannis Tzortzis\, Leonie Yagdjoglou.   \nCurated by Project 2 Athens (Fiona Mouzakitis & Despina Stavrou) and Christina Mitrentse. \nCo-organised and hosted by the Hellenic Centre.  \nLead sponsor Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulos Foundation. SUMMARY:Design and Transformations: An Outdoor Photographic Exhibition by Vojtech Veskrna
DESCRIPTION:This outdoor exhibition by photographer Vojtěch Veškrna complements Design and Transformation. Stories of Czech Design 1990–2020\, on view at the Czech Centre’s Bouda Gallery. Installed in the public space outside the Czech Embassy\, the series offers a visually rich\, behind-the-scenes look into twelve Czech companies where design plays a central role in shaping both products and identity. \nVeškrna’s photographs move beyond polished final outcomes to focus on the environments\, materials\, and people that define contemporary Czech design. His lens captures the quiet rhythms of daily production\, the tactile beauty of traditional techniques\, and the innovation driving forward-thinking industries—from porcelain workshops and textile printers to medical technology and game development studios. This body of work reveals design as a living process—deeply rooted in craft\, constantly evolving\, and inseparable from the cultural and industrial landscape it inhabits. \nCoorganised by the Czech Centre London and the Academy of Arts\, Architecture and Design in Prague UMPRUM. SUMMARY:Laura Medcalf - Sense of Calm
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening of Laura Medcalf’s second London solo show\, SENSE OF CALM\, at the Liszt Institute London on 11th September\, 6.00 – 8.00 pm. \nAmid the movement and energy of Trafalgar Square\, SENSE OF CALM offers a moment to pause\, a space to step away from the city’s fast pace and into something slower\, elemental\, and immersive. In this solo exhibition\, British-Hungarian multidisciplinary artist Laura Medcalf transforms the Liszt Institute into a space of stillness and presence\, shaped by open waters\, soil\, and sunlight. \nWorking with soluble\, light-sensitive crystals mixed in her unique way to paint her first layer\, Medcalf creates each of her works directly at the meeting point between land and open water. These pieces are not representations of landscapes\, but physical imprints which result from a meditative collaboration with nature. Medcalf immerses the surfaces of her works into rivers\, lakes\, and seas around the world: from Britain’s Jurassic Coast to the Danube and Tisza rivers\, the still waters of Lake Balaton\, to all the way to the Mediterranean as well as the Caribbean Sea. The sunlight\, sand\, open water\, and the weather conditions\, together with Medcalf’s layered gestural painting process\, create unique\, unrepeatable textures and tones across the surface of each work. \nThe process begins with brushstrokes applied to the paper\, which are soon set aside. Medcalf works in harmony with the environment\, allowing the organic materials gathered directly from shorelines to guide her hand. This collaboration enables the landscape itself to leave its imprint on the work. The intensity of the sun\, the texture of the soil\, and the composition of the water all play a vital role in shaping each piece. Her approach is both intuitive and exacting\, embodying a delicate balance between control and surrender. \nNone of the works has a fixed centre point. Their open\, expansive aura draws the viewer in\, radiating a sense of infinite calm. With every glance\, new forms and layers begin to unfold. Each piece holds the trace of a specific place\, allowing the ephemeral moment to become paradoxically enduring. These works are imprints of a quiet dialogue with nature and time\, silent recollections of shifting light\, gestures of weather\, subtle emotional currents\, and the transient moments of the natural world. \nAs part of the London Design Festival\, this exhibition explores how art can become more than an object of observation\, a space for stillness and inner calm. Built from organic elements\, the works establish a delicate balance between the rhythms of nature and human perception\, offering an opportunity for reflection\, renewal\, and a deeper connection with ourselves and the world around us. \nIn a world that rarely slows down\, SENSE OF CALM invites viewers to pause. To listen. To feel the flow. To follow the traces of light. To look beyond the surface\, towards the quiet\, invisible forces that shape us all. \nThe exhibition is open to the public 12 September – 20 October\, Monday through Friday\, 11.00 am – 7.00 pm. \nExhibition opening: 11 September\, 6.00 – 8.00 pm. RSVP essential. \nIn partnership with the London Design Festival

SUMMARY:The Sun Can Be: An IPLA Collective Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The Sun Can Be: an IPLA collective exhibition\, showcases the works of four young British-based poets operating in the fields of visual poetry\, experimental textual poetry\, text art\, and the asemic. \n\nThe works of the exhibition range from multimedia poetry\, self-portraiture\, and 3D poetry to typewriter art\, lino print\, and a prose-puzzle poem series exhibiting material\, form and method as conveyors of shifting\, alternate realities. From a triptych of calligrams that echo the Surrealism of Guillaume Apollinaire to a series of text art pieces\, to conceptual poetry that reinterprets perspective. The Sun Can Be expands on these themes through unconventional and diversified aesthetics that redefine traditional poetry\, and serves as a translation of the artistic intentions of the IPLA poets.\n\nhttps://inparentheses.cargo.site | Instagram\nIPLA Artists\nCameron Wade\nCameron Wade is a writer and poet based in London. His work explores the nature of storytelling\, the relationship between inner and outer realities\, non-linear storytelling\, and themes of madness\, ‘other’-spaces\, the eerie and the weird; experimenting with ergodic literature and meta-textuality through fiction\, prose-poetry\, visual and asemic poetry\, collage and performance.\n\nDanica Ignacio\nDanica Ignacio is a Filipino poet whose writing focuses on the juxtaposition of the ordinary and the non-ordinary by giving importance to the small. Mainly taking from more traditional forms of poetry\, her work aims to morph the everyday experience just enough to be unrecognisable while still maintaining its form.\n\nEleanor Wilders\nEleanor Wilders finds inspiration from the ignored details of routine and from the in-betweens of the everyday experience\, she crafts stories that question our assumptions about connection\, purpose\, and freedom. Her artistic practice leads to an exploration of exposure in today’s society; her work tries to confront the paradox of vulnerability in an age of hyper-connectivity\, whilst grappling with the tension between authenticity and public persona.\n\nMatthew Sokulsky\nMatthew Sokulsky is concerned with the tense relationship between nature and rational\, theology and logic\, and their ability (or not) to co-exist in the contemporary. His work experiments with traditional forms to create decidedly new poetry that at once exemplifies modernity while recognising the rich vein of myth and ritual to which he believes all poetry fixes its base.\nOpening hours:\nThe gallery will be opened to the public 12 noon to 5pm every Wednesday to Saturday\nOpening Night and Special View\nSaturday 9 August 2025\, 7-9pm / Bouda Gallery\nThe exhibition opens on 9 August with a special event featuring Tim Postovit\, a Czech poet\, performer\, and translator of Ukrainian origin.\n\nCelebrating cross-culture collaboration and international innovation the event will also include live performances by David Spittle\, Aimae Nimmo\, Matthew Sokulsky\, Danica Ignacio\, Eleanor Wilders\, Cameron Wade and many more to be announced.\n\nAbout Tom Postovit\nTim Postovit was born in Ukraine and has lived in the Czech Republic since the age of six. He studied philology at Charles University in Prague. He translates from Ukrainian and Russian. In 2019 he published his debut collection of poems\, Magistrála (Highway). A poem from this book has been featured in the annual Best Czech Poetry anthology. He also performs slam poetry and holds the 2019 joint title for duo slam poetry. In 2021 his second poetry collection came out Motýlí pavilon (The Butterfly Pavilion). In 2022 he was nominated for Václav Burian Prize. From 2022 he has worked at Organization for Aid to Refugees (OPU) as a social worker for Ukrainian community. He is a member of a Czech Writers Association. He is based in Prague.\nIPLA and Friends.\nThursday August 14\, 2025\, 7-9pm / Bouda Gallery\nAn evening of experimental performance and readings from the IPLA Collective\, Simon Tyrell\, Irys Bird\, Oscar Sutherland-Dee\, Martin Wakefield and more to be announced!\n\nThe second event in the series features an array of bespoke new readings and performances including a world-first IPLA collaborative performance and poets travelling from across the country to read their brilliant new works for you at the historic Bouda Gallery.\nFurther accompanying events: \n\n August 16th\, 7 – 9 pm\n August 21st\, 7 – 9 pm\n August 23rd\, 7 – 9 pm\n August 28th\, 7 – 9 pm\n August 30th\, 7 – 9 pm\n\nThe Sun Can Be\, an exhibition by IPLA Collective\, is the Czech Centre’s Summer Artistic Residency — a pilot project offering a safe and supportive space for local artists and the community. SUMMARY:Poet Peasant: an exhibition by SJ Fowler
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition of poetry as curios\, discovered text and found literary sculptures drawn from previously unseen works\, selected asemic writing and the poetic props of performances across the globe. Drawing from fifteen years of rabid activity\, this exhibition evidences the breadth of visual and conceptual poetry from one of the definitive experimentalists of the British 21st century literary scene. \n\nOn the site of the former Notting Hill Books\, a formative space for many\, including Fowler\, this exhibition emphasises the potential of the marginal\, peculiar\, detritus-as-poetry mode so removed from the medium’s stereotypical obsession with neatness\, craft and clarity. From bear suits to homemade skeletons\, handwritten novels to concrete poems\, Poet Peasant represents the core aesthetic concerns of SJ Fowler – playful\, eclectic and anti-singular\, it is a deliberate mess of fun and weird visual literature that stretches the bounds of what poetry is.\n\nwww.stevenjfowler.com/poetpeasant\n\nSJ Fowler is a writer\, poet and performer who lives in London. His work has been commissioned by The National Gallery\, Tate Modern\, BBC Radio 3\, Somerset House\, Tate Britain\, Southbank Centre and he was part of the first Hub residency at Wellcome Collection. His visual poetry has been exhibited at the V&A\, Hayward Gallery\, Jerwood Space\, Mile End Art Pavilion\, Kielder Forest\, Tate St Ives and Palais de Tokyo. He has published over 50 works\, the subject of the Small Publishers Fair 2022 feature exhibition and given over 400 performances at venues around the world. He lecturer at Kingston University and is the director of the European Poetry Festival. Poet Peasant … is his 8th solo exhibition.\n\nOpening hours:\nThe gallery will be opened to the public 12 noon to 5pm every Wednesday to Saturday\n\nAccompanying events:\nJuly 19th\, July 24th July 26th\, July 31st\, August 2nd 7pm – 9pm.

SUMMARY:They All Met in Karlsbad
DESCRIPTION:During the summer\, the Czech Centre’s Vitrínka Gallery presents a group exhibition showcasing recent works by eight emerging Czech artists from the 2024 Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad) residencies. Their cross-disciplinary pieces reflect the town’s rich heritage and spirit of collaboration. \n\nThe Magnus Art Gallery in Prague  launched its residency programme after gaining access to an elegant apartment in an Art Nouveau palace in Karlovy Vary. Designed for two artists at a time\, the residency fosters dialogue between disciplines and encourages creative exchange. \nIn 2024\, seven artist pairs took part\, often blending media—glass with textiles\, sculpture with painting. The town’s distinctive spa town atmosphere and layered history became a powerful source of inspiration. \nInitially shown at the palace’s Display Gallery and later in Prague\, a selection of these pieces now comes to London’s Vitrínka Gallery\, offering a glimpse into how young Czech art flourishes when given space and freedom to experiment. \nArtists exhibiting in London\nAnežka Hošková & Jakub Hošek\nAnežka Hošková’s paintings reflect her romantic vision of Karlovy Vary’s churches\, landscapes\, and mineral springs\, merging meditative experiences with watercolour techniques. Jakub Hošek responded to the city’s uneasy history\, blending beautiful and dark elements into stitched compositions filled with texts\, emotions and urban fragments. \nKaríma Al-Mukhtarová & TEA\nKaríma Al-Mukhtarová explored the transformative symbolism of bathing in a monumental tapestry\, capturing the moment between death\, acceptance and rebirth. TEA created a sculpture of a scribe inspired by Egyptian aesthetics\, integrating fragments of Karíma’s tapestry into the work\, reflecting on shared experience and artistic imprint. \nAnna Jožová & Lucie Rosická\nAnna Jožová and Lucie Rosická investigated materials tied to Karlovy Vary’s nature and culture. Jožová’s luminous glass objects engaged in dialogue with Rosická’s embroidered textiles\, as both artists inspired each other to cross creative and material boundaries\, exchanging insights from their differing practices. \nNéphéli Barbas & Jakub Tytykalo\nNéphéli Barbas was drawn to the city’s layered architecture and forested surroundings\, translating these into sculptural forms of bent aluminium. Jakub Tytykalo created a unique series of paintings exploring the inner energy of underground springs\, blending elemental forces in vibrant\, otherworldly compositions. \n\nEXHIBITION OPENING\nWith artists Karíma Al-Mukhtarová & TEA\nFriday 11 July 2025\, 6.30 – 8.30 pm\nFree entry\, Book Here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/they-all-met-in-karlsbad-private-view-tickets-1376243093139?aff=oddtdtcreator \n\nEXHIBITION DATES: 11 July – 31 August 2025\nVENUE\nVitrínka Gallery\, Czech Centre London\n30 Kensington Palace Gardens\, London\, W8 4QY\nOPENING HOURS:\nTue – Fri 10am – 5pm\nor by appointment – +44 (0) 207 836 3669\n\nOrganised by Czech Centre London in partnership with Magnus Art Gallery and J&T Bank. \nThis exhibition is part of From Karlovy Vary\, With Art\, the Czech Centre’s series celebrating the cultural legacy and creative spirit of Karlovy Vary through contemporary art\, design and cinema — including the tribute screening Jiří Bartoška In Memoriam: Shadows of a Hot Summer\, the group exhibition They All Met in Karlsbad and the poster showcase The Embrace as a Symbol of Closeness from the 59th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

SUMMARY:Kings’ Medals - Hungary’s Millenary Royal History exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Liszt Institute London is delighted to present our second exhibition\, titled Kings’ Medals: Hungary’s Millenary Royal History. The exhibition will be open to the public between 9 May – 13 June\, Monday through Thursday\, 2-6 pm\, and Fridays\, 11 am-3 pm. \nFor over 50 years\, the Alba Regia Organisation of the Hungarian Numismatic Society has played a key role in preserving Hungary’s numismatic heritage. Between 1972 and 2012\, the organisation issued and collaborated on 54 commemorative medals celebrating the country’s royal history. \nA major milestone came in 1986 with the launch of the ‘Kings Crowned and Buried in Székesfehérvár’ medal series\, later followed by ‘Királysor’\, honouring Hungarian kings of the Habsburg dynasty. Over 25 years\, this ambitious project produced 35 medals crafted through the collaboration of renowned sculptors\, goldsmiths\, and dedicated collectors. \nThis exhibition offers a unique insight into the artistry and craftsmanship behind these medals\, showcasing original designs\, minting techniques\, and the historical figures they commemorate. A detailed catalogue provides further context\, making this a must-see for history enthusiasts\, coin collectors\, and visitors to Székesfehérvár. \nThe medals\, issued annually at the Alba Regia Numismatic Meeting\, are a lasting tribute to Hungary’s royal legacy—a tangible connection to the nation’s past\, preserved in metal for future generations.

SUMMARY:Identity - The Story of Czech Graphic Design
DESCRIPTION:Graphic design—including posters\, books\, magazines\, logos\, orientation systems\, and even national symbols—plays a crucial role in shaping the identity of every nation. For the Czech Republic (and formerly Czechoslovakia)\, the history of graphic design since the early 20th century has been particularly complex. The Czechs had to fight for their own statehood\, endure two world wars\, navigate two totalitarian regimes\, and transition from a socialist planned economy to a market economy. \n\nThrough original works and reproductions\, visitors to the exhibition will explore the most significant achievements in Czech graphic design and learn about their creators. Accompanied by detailed texts\, the exhibition positions these works within their broader cultural\, historical\, and political contexts\, showcasing the power of graphic design to influence society and reflect societal changes.\n\nCurated by  Filip Blažek and Linda Kudrnovská\, in collaboration with commissioner David Korecký\, the exhibition is part of the multi-genre project Identity – The Story of Czech Graphic Design(www.projektidentita.cz). This ambitious initiative also includes a seven-part television series\, a feature film\, and a bilingual monograph (published in Czech and English) under the same title.\n\nThe traveling exhibition Identity is a collaboration between by Typo\, the Mowshe Studio\, the Museum of Literature\, and the Czech Centres network. The graphic design was undertaken by the Marvil Studio\, while the exhibition design was created by Adam Blažek\, Jan Kloss\, and Matěj Činčera from Okolo.\n\n EXHIBITION OPENING\nWith curators Filip Blažek and Linda Kudrnovská\nFriday 28 February 2025\, 18:30 – 20:30\nFree entry\, REGISTER HERE\n EXHIBITION DATES: 28 February – 30 June 2025\n VENUE\nVitrínka Gallery\, Czech Centre London\n30 Kensington Palace Gardens\, London\, W8 4QY\n&\nBouda Gallery\, Czech Centre London\n132 Palace Gardens Terrace\, Kensington\, London\, W8 4RT\n OPENING HOURS:\nTue – Fri 10am – 5pm\nor by appointment – +44 (0) 207 836 3669
