DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to welcome back London-based pianist\, composer\, and producer\, Tomi Balogh\, to the Liszt Institute London for a special pre-release concert of his newest album\, A Reason To Listen. \n\nA Reason To Listen is his most personal work to date. Inspired by his son Samuel\, who was diagnosed with a rare genetic syndrome shortly after birth\, the album is a meditation on unconditional love\, on finding joy in unexpected places\, and on learning to let go of expectations. It is a story that extends far beyond one family — a reminder that every person deserves to be loved exactly as they are. \n\n\nJoining Tomi for this special evening are featured collaborators from the album: Rick Leon James the multi-instrumentalist\, bass player and producer\, Zsofi Bartal flautist\, Selina Albright\, vocalist and Daniel Deej John on drums. Together\, they bring the album to life in an intimate live setting before its release to the world. \nAlongside the music\, Tomi is partnering with charities that support families raising children with additional needs – and this concert is part of that wider conversation. \nAdmission is free. DESCRIPTION:Instituto Cervantes in collaboration with the Oxford Literary Festival\, presents El niño y la bestia (The Boy and the Beast)\, a performance based on the short story of the same name by author Elvira Lindo. \n\nIn this performance\, Lindo narrates a story inspired by her father’s childhood\, when he was sent to live with an aunt in a Madrid devastated in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War. She is accompanied by musicians Olatz Ruiz de Gordejuea on violin\, Salvador Bolón on cello\, Ander Perrino on double bass\, and María Lindo—artistic director of the project—on English horn.\n\nElvira Lindo is a journalist and writer. Her children’s books featuring the character Manolito are considered classics of Spanish children’s literature and include Manolito on the Road and Manolito Four-Eyes: The 1st Volume of the Great Encyclopedia of My Life. She is a recipient of Spain’s National Prize for Children’s Literature. Her works for adults include Open Heart.

DESCRIPTION:In this year’s Rebetiko Carnival\, violonist Kyriakos Gouventas and a group of brilliant musicians present the work of master violinists Dimitris Semsis (Salonikios) and Ioannis Dragatsis (Ogdontakis). Reviving the precious music of Santourovioli\, the combination of violin\, santur and guitar\, this evening will introduce you to the early rebetiko music of Asia Minor. \n\nDuring the great population movement in the southern Balkans in the early 20th century\, seminal artists from Constantinople\, Smyrna and the coasts of Asia Minor settled on the Greek islands and ports. Among them\, great music masters such as Dimitris Semsis (Salonikios) and Ioannis Dragatsis (Ogdontakis) came to Greece\, bringing along their sound and becoming leading figures in the local music scene.  \n\nTheir captivating performances and recordings made them legendary figures in the history of world music. The main instruments in Early Rebetika are violin\, santur\, guitar\, kanun\, oud and tampoura. Santurovioli is a minimal combination of violin\, santur and guitar. These three form an impressively functional musical system where the microtonal use of the violin shines brightly in the rich harmonics of the santur over a solid bass-guitar rhythmical background. Beginning his musical journey at the age of seven\, Adrien’s talent quickly became evident. At age 15\, he was accepted into the prestigious Lansum International Piano Festival\, where he first met and began studying with Roza Yoder. Since then\, he has received numerous accolades\, including 1st Prize in multiple Southern Youth Music Festivals and Music Teachers’ Association of California competitions\, 1st Prize in two Liana Cohen Competitions\, and top prizes in several national and regional concerto competitions. Adrien has also been awarded 1st\, 2nd\, and 3rd Prize in the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition and received an Honorable Mention in the Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford.\n\nAdrien’s performances have taken him across the United States and internationally\, with engagements in Poland\, England\, and Wales. He has also been a member of three piano trios\, one of which performed in Vienna\, Prague\, and Budapest. His performances continue to captivate audiences with their technical brilliance\, emotional depth\, and exceptional musicality\, leaving a lasting impact on listeners. In addition to his performing career\, Adrien has participated in masterclasses and received private instruction from renowned pianists\, including Edward Wolanin\, Dina Yoffe\, David Garrett\, and Che-Yen Chen.
