DESCRIPTION:The Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Prague comes to London as part of its eight-concert UK tour\, performing Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons with young Czech violinist Matteo Hager as soloist.\n\nThe London concert takes place at St George’s Hanover Square\, the historic Mayfair church where George Frideric Handel was a parishioner. The programme combines much-loved Baroque and Classical works with music by Czech composer Antonín Dvořák.\n\nProgramme:\nJohann Pachelbel — Canon in D major\nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart — Eine kleine Nachtmusik (selection)\nJohann Sebastian Bach — Air on the G String\nGeorge Frideric Handel — Water Music (selection)\nAntonio Vivaldi — The Four Seasons\nAntonín Dvořák — Waltz\, Op. 54 No. 1\nAntonín Dvořák — Slavonic Dance\, Op. 46 No. 8\n\nMatteo Hager\nMatteo Hager is a young Czech violinist studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Supported in his development by renowned Czech violinist Václav Hudeček\, he is the soloist throughout the orchestra’s UK tour.\n\nBohemian Symphony Orchestra Prague\nFounded in Prague and led by director and chief conductor Martin Šanda\, the Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Prague (BSOP) is an ensemble of around 70 musicians whose repertoire spans classical music\, film music and crossover projects. SUMMARY:Brother Tree Sound: Folk Tales\, Landscapes and a Life Story
DESCRIPTION:For this 30th edition of the Made in Prague festival\, Brother Tree Sound will play 3 string quartets with fascinating connections to Prague. They will be playing a quartet bursting with folk melodies\, dances and life – quartet no 1 ‘From my Life’ by the 19th century Czech composer Bedřich Smetana\, who was considered by many to be the father of Czech classical music and whose music is inspired by the history\, legends and landscape of his native Bohemia. This autobiographical quartet tells the story of the composers life in four parts from the carefree\, early days of his youth\, through midlife love and heartache into his later years when the music depicts the anguish he felt with the onset of his deafness.\n\nElizabeth Maconchy was born in England to Irish parents. She studied with Ralph Vaughan Williams. Feeling drawn to the music of Eastern Europe and composers such as Janáček she travellled to Prague to study with Czech composer Karel Boleslav Jirák. Her quartet no 3 is short but intensely felt\, with discussion between the four players around a central theme that dominates with intent.\n\nKateřina Horká is an emerging Czech composer. Her String Quartet no. 2 ‘Icelandic Landscape’ was the winning piece of the 7th Antonín Dvořák Composition Competition. Kateřina’s music draws inspiration from many styles and genres. Adapted from her acclaimed autobiographical novel\, performer and director Miřenka Čechová traces the often brutal journey of young girls pursuing ballet dreams\, exposing a world shaped by discipline\, ambition and sacrifice.\n\nBlending movement\, theatre and personal testimony\, Čechová creates a deeply intimate work that lays bare both the physical demands and psychological cost of artistic training. Revisiting past traumas with unsparing honesty and self-deprecating humour\, Ballerinas becomes not only an examination of a toxic system\, but also a powerful search for identity\, resilience and catharsis.\n\nThe show will be performed in English. \n\nMiřenka Čechová is a Czech author\, choreographer\, director and performer whose multidisciplinary practice spans theatre\, dance and documentary storytelling. SUMMARY:Piano Recital with Costas Fotopoulos
DESCRIPTION:Costas Fotopoulos’ piano recital begins with two giants of the Baroque era\, both born in 1685:  three highly original harpsichord sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti are followed by the sixth of the Partitas composed for keyboard by J. S. Bach. Published in 1731 and consisting of seven movements encompassing a wide variety of emotions\, it is arguably Bach’s greatest suite.  \n\nThe recital’s second half opens with two rich and highly expressive works by Chopin: the second of his Op. 62 set of Nocturnes and one his last as well as one of his greatest and most popular pieces: the First Ballade in G minor.  Fotopoulos will then perform his own Hommage à Chopin\, composed as a tribute to the great master\, before performing two of Granados’ wonderful Twelve Spanish Dances inspired by the folk music of his native country.  \n\nThe recital will end with a fiendish transcription of three movements from Stravinsky’s electrifying Firebird Suite. Transcribed by Guido Agosti\, it is dedicated to the memory of his teacher – the pianist and composer Ferruccio Busoni.
