Occupied Europe, A Fragmented Resistance

May 31, 2024 | 8:00 pm 9:30 pm

Posterity has bequeathed us an image of the Resistance as partisans acting alone against the Nazi occupier. And yet, in many countries under Nazi occupation, these clandestine networks were mobilised, organised and funded by the British secret service: the S.O.E. (Special Operations Executive). To defend the freedom of people while protecting strategic interests, these interventions sometimes turned into interference, and shaped the post-war era, for better and for worse. Packed with archival footage, this fascinating documentary deconstructs one of the strongest myths about Resistance in Europe during WWII. Followed by a discussion with director Cécile Coolen
